We see surprisingly low fares out of airports all over the place, big and small, and sometimes you’ll still save money on your trip—even if it means having to add a leg to your itinerary.
Many Washington DC dwellers are probably used to looking at flights from multiple airports in the area, but here’s a concrete example of how broadening the airport net could save you quite a bit of cash. Maybe Reagan National is the airport closest to you, but fares to Phoenix are all over $230 roundtrip. Flights from nearby Baltimore, however, are under $140 roundtrip. And even if you don’t have multiple airports within easy reach from your house, you may want to peek at fares from other major airports before you resign yourself to paying more for a flight from the nearest one.
