When traveling with children, remember to bring gum for them to chew during takeoff & landing. The chewing helps avoid "airplane ear".

Walk when possible. This will reveal hidden gems, spontaneous conversations with locals, and help burn the excess vacation calories.

Wake up early to avoid crowds at popular destinations. If you show up at peak hours, you're going to wait :).

Don't overthink, overplan, or overpack. The best adventures are made by winging it, making your own memories, and doing what the locals do.

In Oaxaca, take a daytrip to Hierve el Agua. Infinity pool hot springs with expansive mountain valley views. 10/10 you will not regret.

Always keep a complete toiletries bag ready to go! It simplifies packing and guarantees you never forget something essential.

Book a walking tour your first day (many are free!) - you'll get the lay of the land and a better idea of the places you want to further explore on your own later.

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones that weren't part of your original plan. Take the detour and enjoy!

When traveling overseas, try to avoid drinking from water fountains and stick to water bottles.

Put down your phone and experience travel through your own two eyes instead of a screen.

Try the Argonne "jet lag diet". At least, fast once at sleep time 2 days before your trip, and start eating on the destination meal schedule.

If you can, travel to Iceland in the summer AND winter. It's like visiting two destinations worlds apart, and both are equally beautiful.

Be Flexible! Be spontaneous! Do at least one thing that was not originally in your plans.

Packing cubes are a game changer in being able to pack more and to keep organized. Also be sure to have a bag just for dirty clothes - if you forget to bring one and are staying at a hotel with an ice bucket, you'll usually be in luck with a plastic bag from that as your dirty clothes bag for smaller items like socks.

Travel overland. You might have to fly to reach your destination, but always travel by rail, sea and road once you're there.

Watch tiktoks & vlogs of the destination you will visit and save on Google maps the places that look interesting.

Don't be afraid to try the local food outside of the touristy areas. You'll get some of the best food in the country.

Bring your own water bottle to stay hydrated on the plane and make sure your connecting flight is at least 2 hours.

Download all maps and information for places you want to visit, or get a local SIM card to avoid paying expensive roaming charges.

Stay hydrated. Also, visit some of the same places during the day and then again in the evening/at night. You'll find some gems!

Quality over quantity! You can always fit one more city in the itinerary, but I've found it more rewarding to spend more time in each place.

Pack light, stay curious, and embrace spontaneity. The best travel experiences often happen when you're open to unexpected adventures.

Make friends with the locals. Not only will you gain a new pal or two, but you'll also open yourself up to many more adventures.

Don't feel intimidated to travel by yourself, if you have the opportunity, just do it! You'll be surprised what you are capable of.

Write your packing list the week before you travel, noting the items you use regularly in your daily routines.

Leave the city! Go on a nature and wildlife tour. Take a tour of a local farm or producer. And eat at local, small restaurants.

Make plans, but be open to changing them. Some of my best memories are of the misadventures and serendipitous discoveries I never expected.

The Duty Free area is not just for last minute gifts (or savings on booze ;) but rather a great way to fix yourself up between long haul flights with skincare samples and perfume, for free-99.

If you're checking a bag, put your toothbrush, glasses and an extra pair of underwear in your personal item just in case your bag gets lost.

Don't overlook trains and roadtripping! You can get to hard-to-reach gems, find awesome hikes, and discover incredible food.

Always ask a local. They will be sure to give you the best recommendations which you may not have found on your own.

Be creative when taking photos of iconic landmarks. Use a tree branch or archway to make a frame. Capture a reflection in water nearby!

Try slowing down. Slow travel allows you to break out of tourist spaces, get to know the locals, and find hidden gems in a city or country.

Do a food tour wherever you go. They provide such great insights into the culture and history of the city.

Storage is cheap; take videos! Then pick a song that means something, splice it all together, and relive your adventure at your leisure.

Take a suitcase twice as large as you need - you'll want the extra space for all the goodies you'll want to bring home!

It’s easy to overplan, but try spending more time in fewer places. I always have more fun when I allow time for wandering & people watching.

Book the flight. Learn a couple key phrases so you can get around in a new country. Eat, Eat, Eat! Don't get trapped going to touristy spots — find good local eats.

If language and culture allow, seek out conversations with locals. Great connections are some of the most memorable parts of travel.

Walking food tours are a great way to explore a city, discover the local cuisine, and meet other travelers.

I like to keep a few options for food or activities in mind just in case the day doesn't go according to plan. It's great to be flexible!

Plan for an agenda-free day! Exploring without set plans often leads to the most memorable moments of the trip.

Capsule wardrobes! Every piece can work together interchangeably.

I always bring a sketchpad and colored pencils for when inspiration strikes.

Your journey won't follow the script, but that's the beauty of it. The most unforgettable memories often come from the unplanned moments. Embrace the adventure!

Get out of your comfort zone. Try things you wouldn’t normally try. Engage with locals and ask them what is best to experience.

Leave large gaps in your travel itinerary for spontaneous re-routes and travel recommendations from locals/fellow travelers!

Explore your area in concentric circles. You can learn & experience so much more.

When packing, instead of folding your clothes, use the Ranger Roll technique. It saves a lot of space and keeps them tidy and wrinkle-free!

Be curious! Take time to wander around without a map or your phone. You can experience so much more of a destination by doing so.

Create a Google doc itinerary for your trip and edit it along the way. It's a great way to help your friends plan in the future.

Bookmark the restaurants and bars you want to hit in Google Maps. While traveling, you can pull up the map and visit those nearest to you.

Be an eclectic eater. Don't be afraid to try something new — you just might like it. But above all else, you opened your world to others.

Bring travel-size packets of laundry detergent so you can wash clothes in the sink. No more packing 12 pairs of underwear for a 3 day trip!

Book places with a washer & dryer. You can pack less clothes and do your laundry before heading home! Also, follow the locals for food.

Eat everything! Dive into whatever the locals are eating. There's no better way to connect with a place and its people.

If it's something you can do or eat at home...DON'T DO IT. Experience the culture where you are and be open to new things.
